HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: LOCALS HAVE BIG DAY AT NEED FOR SPEED INVITE AND STAC PENTATHLON (May 18, 2026)

JOHNSON CITY — It was a big day for Horseheads athletes at the Need for Speed Invite on Monday night in Johnson City.
Locals also found success in the STAC Pentathlon on the day.
The Horseheads girls were second at 78 points, with Vestal winning at 103. For the boys Horseheads took 10th with six points. Elmira was 13th with two points.
Sophie Shutter broke the school record in the 600 taking sixth at 1:56.24.
Erica Bancroft broke the school record in the 200 hurdles in 31.32. Shutter was fourth in 34.16. Ella Chalk was seventh at 35.10.
Maggie Tremaine won the 200 in 28.49 with teammate Morgan Adams third in 28.76 and Claire Schillo seventh in 30.93.
Horseheads took third in the girls’ 4x200 relay in 1:57.05 and in the girls’ 500 Elise Gulati took second in 1:33.05.
Carver Robbins was fifth in the boys’ 300 in 38.94 and in the girls’ 300 Kadence Adams was fourth in 49.65 followed by Madison Bancroft in 49.67.
In the girls’ 4x100 relay Horseheads was third at 55.71 and in the 800 meter sprint relay for the girls the Blue Raiders took third at 2:10.79.
In the boys’ 800 sprint medley relay Horseheads was fourth at 1:51.61.
Lavonte Gibbons of Elmira was fifth in the 600 in 1:35.06.
Cameron Woodward was seventh (8.35) and Mira Barnum eighth (8.37) in the girls’ 55 meters. Tyler Sherry was ninth in the boys race in 7.12.
Ella Chalk was third in the girls’ 100 hurdles in 19.96.
Christian Thomas was sixth in the boys’ 200 in 24.33 and Gibbons was 10th for Elmira in 24.75.
Gabrielle Owusu was second in the girls’ 100 in 13.60 and Tremaine was sixth in 13.95 followsd by Adams in 14.03, while Bancroft was ninth at 14.30.
In the boys’ STAC pentathlon Keith Huff of Corning was fourth at 2,187 and Abdiel Basabakwinshi of Horseheads was eighth at 1,978.
For the girls Elmira’s Naudia Inness won the girls’ pentathlon at 2,358 followed by Clare McLaughlin of Corning at 2,343 and Azayvanna Morgan of Elmira at 1,792.
Huff was third in the 110 hurdles for the boys’ pentathlon in 19.30 and Basabakwinshi was eighth in 22.07.
Basabakwinshi was third in the 1500 in 5:02.16 followed by Huff in 5:05.85.
Huff was third in the high jump at 1.57m with Basabakwinshi seventh at 1.42. Basabakwinshi was sixth in the long jump at 5.06m with Huff eighth in 4.97m.
Basabakwinshi was third in the shot put at 10.27m and Huff was fifth at 9.16m.
For the girls McLaughlin won the 100 hurdles in 16.30 with Inness second in 18.71 and Morgan third in 19.40.
Morgan won the 800 in 2:43.49 followed by Inness (2:43.50) and McLaughlin (2:51.03).
Inness won th high jump at 1.40m followed by McLaughlin (1.30) and Morgan was fourth at 1.25m.
Inness won the shot put at 7.68 followed by McLaughlin (6.91) and Morgan (5.58).
Inness won the long jump at 4.84 followed by McLaughlin (4.68) and Morgan (3.97).
