IAC GIRLS' SOCCER: EDISON EDGED IN 2OT BY SVEC ON SENIOR DAY (October 10, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison girls’ soccer team was edged 3-2 in double overtime on senior day and homecoming against Spencer Van-Etten/Candor.
“A heartbreaking way to lose a game on our Homecoming and Senior Day, but still so incredibly proud of the girls' effort tonight against a team that was the class of our division this season,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “Numerous stand-out performances especially from our defensive unit, but I have to make mention of our keeper Kaylynn Tarby who battled through a late injury and made multiple top-class saves to keep us in the game. Unfortunately it was once again set pieces that got the best of us, with a corner and two tough PK calls making the difference.
“This past week up to today has been a testament to just how far our program has come in three short years of existence, and none of that is possible without this special group of seniors. Many of them showed up our very first day in 2024 with zero soccer experience, but they've embraced the sport and this team, and have laid the foundation for the future of Elmira Heights Girls' Soccer. They are an incredible group of 5 student athletes, and they will be missed.”
SVEC struck first at 8:42 as Alexandra Lyon scored off an Emma Fey assist.
At 21:49 Eliza Crandall scored off an assist from Paige Vaughan as the game was 1-1 at the half.
In the second half Paige Weber headed in a corner kick by Crandall at 47:37 to put the Spartans up 2-1.
Lyon tied the game at 64:56 on a penalty kick and won it in the second overtime at 96:28 off another penalty kick.
Edison had six shots and four corner kicks and SVEC had 17 shots and seven corners. Tarby had nine saves and Alaina Yeier had three saves for SVEC.
