STAC BOYS' SOCCER: ELMIRA AND HORSEHEADS PLAY TO SCORELESS TIE (October 9, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Horseheads and Elmira boys’ soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on Friday night.
Dom Capilli opened the scoring in the first half on a penalty kick with 10 minutes left in the half.
Brayden Spier tied the match with 10 minutes left in the second half off a beautiful through ball by Mason Earl.
“It was a great battle tonight by both teams,” Horseheads coach Mark Mucci said. “We played a much better second half, moved the ball better, and generated chances.
Really proud of the continued resilience shown by this team. We had several guys who had to play different positions tonight, or put in extra minutes, and they all rose to the challenge.”
Sebastian Garcia had seven saves in goal for Horseheads.
“Gam elf two halves in my opinion,” Elmira coach Derek Hamilton said. “I thought we played well in the first 40 minutes. Saw some positive play and earned a goal with some other opportunities. However, Horseheads played really well in the second half and I thought they had the better run of play.
“We made some changes and pulled the momentum back in our favor in OT, but couldn’t find a goal. I think a draw is a fair result for both teams today.”
