Southern Tier Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — A goal by Noelle Sonsire midway through the first half was all the Corning Hawks would need in a 1-0 win over Horseheads on Tuesday night.

Karina Swarthout had a big game in net for the Hawks with seven saves to get the shutout.

“Tonight’s win was a total team effort,” Corning coach Julie Pierce said. “We kept great shape on the field, which is something we have really been working on, and stayed locked in for the full 80 minutes.

“Every player did their part to secure the win. Whether it was winning a tackle, making the extra un, communicating, defending, or creating opportunities, everyone contributed. I was really proud of our discipline, communication, and effort from start to finish.”
