STAC GIRLS' SOCCER: HORSEHEADS EDGES CORNING IN OT, 3-2 (September 11, 2026)

Southern Tier Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads boys’ soccer team edged Corning 3-2 in overtime on Friday night in the Blue Raiders’ home opener.

Jason Lucht scored the game winner off a perfectly placed ball by Brayden Spier from a free kick.

Landyn Proudfoot of Corning scored first off a Ross Fucito assist, but Mason Earl tied the match on an assist from Alex Vesneske eight minutes later in the first half.

Landyn Proudfoot put Coring up 2-1 at the half off a Fucito assist, before Spier scored 1:30 into the second half to tie the game.

“It was a hard fought, well played match by both teams,” Horseheads coach Mark Mucci said. “Extremely proud of the continued resilience shown by this team. They just keep battling no matter what. Sebastian Garcia made several big saves that kept Horseheads in the match and finished with eight on the night. Ben Hufnagel had seven saves for Corning.”

Corning had 11 shots and seven corners and Horseheads had 10 shots and six assists.

“This was a match of momentum,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “We knew Horseheads would come out and play extremely hard, they always do. There were moments we matched their intensity, and moments where they just seemed to have an extra fire. We’ll look to get a great training session in and work to be ready to host Ithaca Monday.”
