NYSPHSAA FOOTBALL: CORNING STRIKES FIRST, BUT FALLS AT CNS IN OPENER (September 4, 2026)

CICERO — Cicero-North Syracuse closed out the half strong as the Corning Hawks fell on the road in the season opener 43-16.

After both teams scored eight in the first quarter, CNS scored 14 in the second to go up 22-8 at the half. CNS then scored 14 in the third on their way to the win.

Corning struck first in the game with a touchdown at 6:50 as Jay Richards ran in from six-yards out. Johnny Graham had the two-point run.

CNS had the next four scores in the game.

Casey Hale had a 26-yard touchdown run at 5:55 of the third quarter. Nate Bretch threw the two-point throw to Keegan VanCise. 

Bretch threw for 61 yards in the game. 

Richards ran for 47 yards and Mikey Johnston ran for 42 yards. Hale ran for 32 yards and Keegan Kelly and Jaydon Croft each ran for 31 yards. 

Graham had a 61-yard catch and ran for 10 yards.
