SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: ELMIRA RETURNS TO THE FIELD TO PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON (20 PHOTOS) (August 27, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Elmira Express hit the field last week as they began practices to prepare for the new high school football season.
“Excited,” Elmira coach Jimmy McCauley said. “We have a great group, the kids came out energized, motivated, it’s been good.”
The turnout for the Express was good all summer as they prepared for this year.
“I thought good,” McCauley said. “We had 40-50 guys here three days a week throughout the summer. I thought they kind of got ahead of the ball over the summer, install, it was a good summer.”
The Express lost a strong group of athletes to graduation last year, but they know they have players who will step up.
“I don’t worry about how many left or how many return,” McCauley said. “Each year is different. Each year they have to kind of form their own identity and how does what well and utilize that.”
McCauley is ready to see what this group can do.
“Excited,” McCauley said. “High energy, effort. Effort is a huge thing for us. Whether you know what you are doing, or not, effort has got to be there.”
