SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: CORNING HITS THE FIELD TO BEGIN PRACTICES FOR NEW SEASON (24 PHOTOS)(August 17, 2026) Southern Tier Sports Report CORNING — The Corning Hawks hit the practice field to prepare for a new season as high school football practices began on Monday morning.
With strong numbers the Hawks were back on the field Monday.
“Always great to get back out there for the start of the season after a great offseason,” Corning coach Mike Johnston Jr. said. “We have a good nucleus of kids coming back, a couple of seniors that saw quality time last year and a really good group of sophomores and juniors that have been asked to play varsity as underclassmen looking for a lot of production from them.”
The Hawks know they’ll face plenty of good competition this year.
“As always we play a tough league schedule, and our non-league schedule with the likes of CNS, Aquinas and Utica Proctor,” Johnston Jr. said. “Our goal is to go out and compete in every game, putting ourselves in position to have a chance to win.” ———— PHOTOS BY BRIAN FEES
