SECTION 4 TRACK AND FIELD: LOCALS FIND SUCCESS ON FIRST DAY OF STATE QUALIFIERS (24 PHOTOS) (June 4, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportENDICOTT — Cella McLaughlin won the long jump to make states at the Section IV state qualifiers and she was also the top seed in her class in the 100 meters and 100 hurdles.
McLaughlin was the top seed in her division in the 100 hurdles in 15.35. She has the super standard in the event, so automatically makes states with a top-five finish. Erica Bancroft was second in the division in 17.65 followed by Azavyanna Morgan of Elmira in 18.40.
McLaughlin had the top prelim time in her division, and overall, in the 100 meters in 12.23. Serenity Rollins was second for Elmira in 12.78 followed by AnaA’s Dailey at 12.99. Erica Bancroft of Horseheads was fifth at 13.54 followed by teammate Mira Barnum in 13.64.
McLaughlin won the long jump at 18-feet, 6 3/4-inches and Elly Bachert of Horseheads was second at 14-feet, 7 1/4-inches. Madison Bancroft of Horseheads was fourth at 14-feet, 1/4-inches.
Horseheads’ Patrick Laney had the top prelim time in his division in the 100 in 11.04. Zeri’Miah Wilson of Elmira was third at 11.50 followed by Horseheads’ Marco Cipolla in 11.76. Corning’s Zac Radnitz was fifth in 11.80 with Horseheads’ Liam Morrisey sixth at 11.84.
Chinonyerem Okoro won her division in the 400 to make states in 1:00.64. Molly Doran of Elira was second in 1:01.07. Hannah Lasko ofEdison was third in her division in 58.32. Brooklyn Gordon of Corning was fourth in her division in 1:01.96 followed by Sophie Shutter of Horseheads (1:02.18) and Aurora Jellif of Corning (1:02.94).
Corning’s Ryan Calkins won his division in the 400 to make states in 50.59. Tyler Sherry of Horseheads was second in 51.37 followed by teammate Carver Robbins (54.30), Corning’s Dylan Currie (54.36) and Elmira’s Lavontae Gibbons (54.49). Edison’s Zachary Sternfels was ninth in his division in 53.96.
Claire Devlin of Corning won her division in the 400 hurdles to make states in 1:06.59. Aubrey Scott of Corning was third in 1:12.72 followed by teammate Amanda McEwen in 1:13.33. Alisyn Conway was seventh in 1:15.67.
Christopher Lawson won the 3200 in 9:22.82 to make states. Bryce Hammond was runner-up in 9:26.26 followed by Gavin Hornsby of Horseheads in 9:59.64. Elijah Sonner of Corning was fifth in 10:39.46 and Gavin Meier of Notre Dame was sixth in his division in 10:31.19. Andrew Miller of Corning was seventh in 10:40.
Corning’s Reese Conway won the pole vault in her division at 11-feet, 6-inches to make states. Teammate Lauren Williams was fourth at 8-feet, 6-inches.
Leilani Nick and Samantha Harvey tied for the top throw in the discus at 106-feet, 6-inches.
Claire McLaughlin leads D1 in the pentathlon with a score of 1,524. Naudia Inness of Elmira is second at 1,433.
McLaughlin won D1 in the 100 hurdles position in 16.23 with Inness second in 17.62.
Inness had the second best throw in the shot at 7.56 followed by McLaughlin at 7.02m. Inness was second in the high jump at 1.42m. with McLaughlin next at 1.39m.
Selena Rollins had the top time in her division in the prelims in 27.00 in the 200 with Bancroft fourth in 28.14 and Lasko fourth in her division in 26.33. Maggie Tremaine of Horseheads was sixth in 28.75 followed by Morgan Adams in 28.77.
Baraka Schmidt of Horseheads had the top time in the prelims for his division in the 200 in 22.52 followed by teammate Chase Luangsuwan in 22.74. Zeri’miah Wilson of Elmira was fourth in 23.31. Radnitz was sixth in 23.60. Darien Harris of Elmira was seventh in 23.97 and Connor Lasko of Edison was 10th in his division 24.20.
Abdiel Basabakwinshi of Horseheads was third in the boys’ pentathlon at 1,239 points followed by Keith Huff of Corning at 1,211.
Ethan Wentzel of Corning was second in the 110 hurdles prelims in 16.20 followed by teammate Joshua Fajardo at 16.61. Notre Dame’s Antonio Campanella was 10th in 18.52.
Corning’s Abigail Wagner was third in the 800 in 2:26.82. Gabriella Hurd of Corning was fifth in 2:31.37 followed by Bella Martinec (2:33.30).
Sebastian Boutwell of Corning was second in the boys’ 800 in 1:55.77. Max Williams of Horseheads was fifth in 1:58.81 followed by Graham Wightman in 1:59.79. Allen Wetmore of Horseheads was eighth in 2:03.49 followed by Elmira’s James Lovell (2:09.08).
Benjamin Marshall of Elmira was third in the 400 hurdles for the boys in his division in 1:02.51 followed by Connor Calkins in 1:03.24. Augustus Ector of Edison was fourth in his division in 59.33. Adrian Blouin of Corning was sixth in 1:04.05.
Olivia Martinec of Corning was second in the 3000 in 10:35.04. Addie Fenton of Elmira was fourth in 11:04.32. Uma Palma Tree Thutaram of Corning was fifth in 12:02.89 and Madelyn Wise of Elmira was seventhi in 13:125.25.
Elmira had the top time in the 4x100 relay in the prelims in their division in 49.73 with a team of Serenity and Selena Rollins, Arrianna Jones and Dailey. Horseheads’ Gabrielle Owusu, Barnum, Bancroft and Elly Bachert were second in 52.24. Corning was fifth in 55.03 with a team of Emma Mase, Hadley Murray, Kaylee Scolaro and McEwen.
In the boys’ 400 relay Cipolla, Laney, Schmidt and Luangsuwan had the top time in the prelims in 42.90 with Corning’s Liam Krebs, Gayson Timons, Radnitz and Wendell third in 44.72. Bryson Williams, Gabriel Smith, Darius Harrison and Benjamin Marshall took fourth for Elmira in 46.95.
John-Charles Walton of Elmira was fourth in the long jump at 20-feet, 5-inches.
