COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CORNING GRAD RIJO HELPS ARKANSAS REACH COLLEGE WORLD SERIES FOR FIRST TIME (May 23, 2026)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Corning graduate Atalyia Rijo had a 3-for-4 day to help lead the Arkansas softball team to the College World Series for the first time.

Arkansas, the No. 5 national seed, earned their fifth-straight run-rule victory by defeating No. 12 Duke 10-2 in five innings to clinch their first Women’s College World Series berth in program history.

The Razorbacks are now 5-0 in the NCAA Tournament with all five wins coming by the run-rule. Arkansas beams just the second team in NCAA history to accomplish the feat, with the other being 1995 National Champion Arizona.

Rijo was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the win.

In the opening game of the Super Regional the Razorback won 14-5 over Duke with Rijo getting a hit in the game.

Arkansas faces Nebraska in the College World Series on Thursday.
