HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: EDISON EDGED LATE BY BY TOWANDA IN NON-LEAGUE MATCHUP (21 PHOTOS) (May 8, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison baseball team got off to a 2-0 lead, but five runs in the fifth and sixth innings helped Towanda escape with a 5-3 non-league win Friday.
The Black Knights, out of the NTL in Pennsylvania, scored two runs on a Harper Welles two-run single and then Towanda scored three in the sixth.
Tanner Buchanan went 5 1/3 innings for Edison, striking out eight and Paxton Hoover struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of no-hit, no-run relief.
Niko Cheplick had a hit for Edison and Jace Schiller had a double and a run scored.
Hoover had a hit and a run scored and Bentley Stroman had a hit and an RBI. Cayden Collier and Braedyn Gulich each had hits in the game, with Gulich and Camden Grover driving in runs. Buchanan scored a run.
Welles was 3-for-4 with four RBI for Towanda and Boom Thompson had two hits, with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
Thompson threw three innings of one-run relief, striking out three as Shane Maghanez struck out three in four innings.
