STAC BASEBALL: HORSREHEADS CELEBRATES SENIOR NIGHT WITH WIN OVER ITHACA (May 8, 2026)

HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads baseball team celebrated senior day with a 5-0 victory over Ithaca on Friday.

Cooper Ball singled in AJ Sheehan to put Horseheads up 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth and Lyncoln Bennett, Hunter Matkosky and Beckett Doane followed with singles to add insurance runs. 

Ball, Bennett and Matkosky, Doane and Carson Bell had the hits for Horseheads in the game.

Ball, Matkosky, Kegan Monahan, Ryan Weigand and Sheehan scored the runs, while Ball, Bennett and Matkosky had RBI.

Sheehan had two steals to eventually put the winning run on third.

Chase Mashanic got the win on senior night, allowing a hit, walking two and striking out five in the shutout.

Seniors Mashanic, Monahan, Matkosky, Bell, Ben Torgalski and Dmitri Charlanow were honored before the game. 

“It was a great night for the seniors,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “I’m glad they were able to get a win in their last regular season home game. They are great young men. Hats off to Ithaca for a great game.”
