SECTION 4 FLAG FOOTBALL: MARLEY DEVLIN THROWS TWO TDS, BUT ELMIRA FALLS AT WAVERLY (24 PHOTOS) (April 27, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportWAVERLY — The Elmira flag football team fell to Waverly 27-13 on Monday night.
“Despite the final score, this was a big step forward for our team,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “Our girls showed tremendous growth with their energy, intensity and overall effort. We were in a one-score game at halftime, and just a couple of breaks going a different way could have changed the outcome. Against a very strong opponent, this was by far the best game we’ve played this season.
“You can see the lightbulb starting to come on for this group, and I really like where we’re headed moving forward.”
The Express got two touchdown passes from Marley Devlin in the game. One of those passes was to her sister, Ella Devlin, and one was to Emma Lambert. Gracelyn Wheeler, Ava Preston and Lambert all had some big catches through the game.
“Defensively, Kayvonna King and Sari Graham were outstanding and played a huge role in keeping us competitive all night,” Allen said. “We are improving, competing harder, and starting to peak at the right time. I’m proud of the fight this team showed tonight.”
