STAC SOFTBALL: CORNING TOPS ELMIRA TO STAY UNBEATEN (24 PHOTOS) (April 23, 2026)

CORNING — The Corning Hawks, ranked second in the state in Class AAA, stayed unbeaten with a 14-2 win over Elmira on Thursday night.

It was a 1-1 game heading to the bottom of the third, before Corning scored three in the third, five in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth. 

Emelia Smith was 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored and Mia Madden was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Lauren DeRosa had a home run and a double with three RBI and three runs scored and Katie Grover was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. 

Sophie Schoonover had a home run, two RBI and a run scored and Hannah Kauffmann had two hits, with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. 

Matti Johnston had a double and two runs scored and Keana Mann had a hit, while Araya Archuleta had a hit and an RBI. 

Johnston struck out nine in five innings, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned. Smith worked an inning, allowing a hit and striking out three. 

Madi Smith pitched four innings for Elmira, striking out five and. Aleida Agosto pitched 1 2/3 innings. 

Ava Cornacchio, Annabelle Decker, Cate Lambert, Madelyn Cavalier and Smith had hits for Elira. Rylee Gonzalez and Cornacchio scored runs and Anna Osborne had an RBI.
