HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: CORNING WINS IN MYRTLE BEACH TO MOVE TO 3-0 ON THE YEAR (April 6, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportMYRTLE BEACH — The Corning softball team moved to 3-0 on the year as they topped South Range, Ohio, 7-1 at the Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Softball Classic on Monday.
Corning plated three in the first and four more in the third inning in the win.
South Range, who made the state finals in Ohio in 2024, scored a run in the third.
Matti Johnston had three hits, with a triple, two RBI and a run scored and Emelia Smith had a triple, two RBI and a run scored.
Mia Madden had two hits and a run scored and Sophie Schoonover had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Katie Grover had a hit, two RBI and a run scored.
Lauren DeRosa and Hannah Kauffmann each scored runs in the game.
Johnston struck out five and allowed one run on four hits on the mound.
Corning plays Canfield, Ohio, at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
