BCANY GIRLS' BASKETBALL: BONNELL, STARNS EARN BCANY PLAYER OF THE YEAR HONORS (April 2, 2026)

Horseheads’ Samantha Bonnell and Corning’s Char Starns each earned BCANY Player of the Year honors as the BCANY Section IV all-star teams were named.

Bonnell was the Class AA player of the year and Starns was the AAA player of the year. Lexi Wood of Corning was the AAA coach of the year with Andy Scott of Horseheads winning the AA award.

The other players of the year were Harper Eagan (Maine-Endwell) and Norwich’s Josey Ryan in A, Maggie Warpus of Forks in B, Danielle Ennist of Delhi in C and McKenna Hoyt of Stamford/Jefferson in D.

Abby Flynn of Norwich is the Class A coach of the year, Mike Curtis of Forks was the Class B player, Delhi’s Todd Bruce was the Class C player and George Nebesnik of Stamford/Jefferson was the Class D coach.

Bonnell and Starns, along with Horseheads’ Maddie Ribble and Elmira’s Mariah Matias are on the first team. 

The rest of the first team is M-E’s Are Butler and Eagan, Ennist, Hoyt, Aliya Hankey of Johnson City, Olivia Hughes of Susquehanna Valley, Ryleigh Judson of Waverly, Madison Kalet of Union Springs, Ava Kariam of Susquehanna Valley, Nayla Miley of Sidney, Ryan and Warpus. 

Elmira’s Meya Smith, Horseheads’ Giana Hughey and Notre Dame’s Kalysta DeMark are on the second team.

The rest of the second team is Tyler Abts of Delhi, Leah Antes of O-M, Remi Campbell of Binghamton, Jenny Daum of Union Springs, Tedessa DiRenzo of Vestal, Jordan Ericksen-Hrechor of Forks, Giana Gennarelli of U-E, Ella Kariam of Susquehanna Valley, Olivia King of Watkins Glen, Emma Makie of Candor, Jenna McEvoy of Owego, Kamryn Short of Newark Valley, Emma Urgo of Norwich, Rachel Vickie of Watkins Glen, Grace Walley of Walton and Caraline Wasileski of Moravia.

The honorable mention includes Evelyn Starns of Corning and Maggie Tremaine of Horseheads, along with Unatego’s Harly Birdsall, Kylie Carr of Oneonta, Lexi Davis of Delhi, Jayslin Henderson of Bainbridge-Guilford, Kendall Hess of Moravia, Olympia Hopf of Binghamton, Mackenzie Lombardini and Antonia Monico of Johnson City, Mackenzie McGovern of CVS, Raelyn Parks of Unatego, Amelia Paste of CV, Aria Reynolds of U-E, Brynley Ryan of Norwich and Stamford/Jefferson’s Tierney Turner.
