Southern Tier Sports Report
SYRACUSE — The Elmira girls brought home a seventh-place finish at the NYSPHSAA Division I Bowling Championships at AMF Syracuse on Sunday.

Elmira shot 4,960 on the day. They were 434 pins out of a top four finish and 677 pins out of first place.

Elmira shot 938, 799 and 824 for a 2,56 and then 807, 752 and 845 for a 2,404.

“Started off strong and just kind of hard to maintain high scores today,” Elmira coach Jimmy McCauley said. “Kudos to our senior leaders, Maddi Smith and Mady Wasicki. I thought they did a really, really nice job of keeping us level headed and not getting too high or to low. I thought they did a nice job with that.”

Maddi Smith was third overall individually, shooting 257-200-181-638 and 221-162-216-599 for a 1,237. She averaged 206.17 on the day and was just 44 pins off the top spot.

Abbi HInk shot 218-159-168-545 and 140-181-152-473 for a 1,018.

Madyson Wasicki shot 156-167-167-490 and 190-153-182-525 for a 1,015.

Evaya Gardner shot 149-160-131-440 and 130-123-145-398 for a 838.

Ari Paul shot 86-110-109 for a 305 and 126-130-132-388 for a 693.

Izzy Stanley shot a 153-113-177-443 for the first three games and then 117 before an injury to her knee had her not bowl the final two games. Sloan Moss shot 126-150-276 for two games.

“She hit her knee in warmups for the beginning of the fourth game,” McCauley said of Stanley. Tried to do the best she could in the fourth and she finished. Just in a lot of pain so we got her out of there.”

McCauley was proud of how everyone bowled.

“Maddi Smith was consistent all day,” McCauley said. “Consistently at 200 or more. She’s really turned it on in the playoffs. Somebody that stepped in was Sloane Moss at the end. Coming in with a 150 game, that was huge for us. She’s a senior first year bowling with us. She’s made some strides this year.”
