SECTION 4 BOYS' LACROSSE: ND/WG LACROSSE GETS TO WORK PREPARING FOR SEASON (13 PHOTOS) (March 13, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportSOUTHPORT — The Notre Dame/Watkins Glen boys’ lacrosse team is back to practice as they prepare for a new season.
“Ready to go,” coach Geoff Crossley said. “Everybody is excited. Unfortunately we have to wait a couple weeks. We have some boys still playing basketball, so that’s a little tougher for us too.”
With Notre Dame’s boys’ basketball team playing Sunday in the regional final the Crusaders have a nice problem of having to wait to get to full contact.
“Good for them,” Crossley said. “They play Sunday, hopefully they continue to go on. Right now we are basically no contact.”
With warm weather to begin practices it helped with the energy to begin the season.
“The sun is definitely helping us in many, many ways,” Crossley said.
The Crusaders have plenty of new faces this year, including a number of Elmira Jr. Aviator players, who are students at Notre Dame.
“The physical part, and the athletic part is there,” Crossley said. “We are working on the sticks and the feet right now. A little different than having ice skates on.”
The physicality definitely won’t be an issue for the Crusaders.
“That’s definitely not something we’ll have an issue with,” Crossley said. “It’s controlling that which will be the key.”
And, the new faces, plus being merged with Watkins Glen, means bigger numbers for Notre Dame/Watkins Glen this year.
“I was talking to one of my coaches from a couple of years ago when we had 13-14 kids and now we have about 24,” Crossley said. “We can run a full practice.”
