NYSPHSAA INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: CORNING'S MCLAUGHLIN WINS STATE/FEDERATION TITLE IN 55 HURDLES, TAKES 2ND IN LJ AND 5TH IN 4X200 RELAY (March 8, 2026)

STATEN ISLAND — Corning’s Cella McLaughlin posted the fastest times in both the prelims and the finals, to win the NYSPHSAA and Federation titles in the 55 hurdles over the weekend.

McLaughlin had a 7.93 in the prelims, .3 faster than anyone in the field, and then she won the title with a 7.89.

The Corning senior, and Pitt committ, has the fourth best time in the nation this year.

“Not a PR, but I’m really happy with my time,” McLaughlin said. “I have been in the 7.8s all season, it was good to get back in the 7.8s. I am happy with my time. I’m happy with my race, it was great.”

There were some nerves early, but then McLaughlin settled in.

‘I felt pretty good at the beginning, I was really nervous, as per usual, but after the semis it was a relief taken off,” McLaughlin said.

The two-day format this year helped McLaughlin split up her events as she took second in the long jump at 18-feet, 6 3/4-inches and she helped the 4x200 relay finish fifth.

“I’m glad they are doing the two days, it’s more spread out so I’m not as stressed,” McLaughlin said. “The timing in the past has been an issue.”

Meghan Lynch of Schuylerville won the long jump at 19-feet, 5-inches.

The relay was fifth in the state and sixth in the federation, running a 1:44.50, more than a second faster than their seed time.
