NYSPHSAA BOYS' WRESTLING: HORSEHEADS SOPHOMORE MCALLISTER EARNS STATE MEDAL AS 15TH SEED (14 PHOTOS)(February 28, 2026) Southern Tier Sports Report ALBANY — Horseheads sophomore Connor McAllister went from the 15th seed to a state medal on Saturday at the NYSPHSAA Division I Boys’ Wrestling Championships.
McAllister joined teammate Zach Schrage as a state medalist as he picked up a big win to start the game on Saturday.
After advancing to the blood round on Friday the Horseheads sophomore beat eighth-seeded Ethan Steuber of Somers 8-5 on Saturday. He lost his next two matches to take eighth place in the state.
Elmira's LaVonte Gibbons lost 14-4 in his blood round match at 144 pounds and Horseheads' Jaxson Burchard was pinned at 190 pounds.
In Division II Edison's Mason Vanderhoff didn't make weight on Saturday.
