NYSPHSAA WRESTLING: EDISON'S VANDERHOFF WINS BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES TO ADVANCE TO SATURDAY AT STATES (10 PHOTOS)(February 27, 2026) Southern Tier Sports Report ALBANY — Back-to-back wins have Edison freshman Mason Vanderhoff still alive in the wrestle backs at the NYSPHSAA Boys’ Division II Wrestling Championships on Friday.
Vanderhoff dropped his first match of the day 10-1 at 110 pounds, before coming back with an 18-0 technical fall win and a 4-0 decision to advance to the consolation round five.
Vanderhoff will wrestle in the blood round on Saturday for a shot at a state medal.
Edison senior Greg Golden went 0-2 at 175 pounds. He led the first match 7-0 and nearly had a pin, before falling 14-7 in the match. He dropped his wrestle back 9-0 to bring to an end a historic season that saw Golden and Vanderhoff become just the seond and third state qualifiers in Edison program history. -------- PHOTOS BY TIM BIRNEY AND TIM TAYLOR
