SECTION 4 TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING HAS 23 ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR INDOOR STATES (24 PHOTOS) (February 22, 2026)

ITHACA — The Corning Hawks have 23 athletes heading to the state championships after a big weekend at the Section IV Track and Field State qualifier. 

Corning won both the girls and boys titles on the day. The girls won at 119, with Ithaca second at 48. For the boys Corning won at 86, followed by Oneonta at 43. 

Mattisen Johnston made states in the 55 meters and 4x200 relay and Olivia Martinec qualified in the 1,500 meters and 3,000 meters.

Cella McLaughlin had dominant performances in the 55 hurdles and long jup to win titles and make states and she ade it in the 4x200 relay. 

Brooklyn Gordon, Alisyn Conway, Brynna Walsh and Veronica Nevins made it in the 4x400 relay while Hadley Murray is an alternate in the event.

Claire Devlin and Lauren DeRosa join McLaughlin and Johnston in the 4x200 relay with Emma Mase and Claire McLaughlin going as alternates. 

Amanda McEwen made states in the triple jump and is a 1600 relay alternate, while Reece Conway (pole vault) and Sam Harvey (weight throw) made states. 

On the boys side Bryce Hammond (3200) and 4x800 relay) made states while Christopher Lawson made it in the 3200 meters and as an alternate in the 4x800 relay.

Nicholas Ferratella and Sebastian Boutwell each made states in the 1000 meters and 4x800 relay and Ethan Wentzel made it in the 55 hurdles.

Charles Warner, made it in the 3200 relay with Ferratella, Boutwell and Hammond, and Ashtyn Stark is an alternate.

Dexter Badger, Adrian Blouin, Ryan Calkins and Wyatt McDonald all made it in the 1600 relay, with McDonald also making it in the 300. 

Grayson Timmons and Dylan Currie are alternates in the 1600 relay. Max Jennings (pole vault) and Freddie Collins (weight throw) each made states.

In the girls 55 Johnston was second in 7.39 with DeRosa sixth in 7.62. 

Logan Durand was seventh in the boys’ 55 in 6.85. 

Martinec was second in the 3000 in 10:34.19. Hammond was second in the 3200 in 9:41.33 followed by Lawson in 9:56.40. Andrew Miller was 10th in 10:39.80.

Ferratella won the 1000 in 2:35.67 followed by Boutwell in 2:37.46.

Wentzel was third in the 55 hurdles in 7.83.

Cella McLaughlin won the girls’ 55 hurdles in 8.10, .68 better than anyone else in the field. Clare McLaughlin was third in 9.18. Cella McLaughlin ran a 7.93 in the prelims.

Martinec was second in the 1500 in 4:58.58and Kateland Dininny was fifth in 5:05.26 with Abigail Wagner ninth in 5:16.96. 

Stark was sixth in the 1600 in 4:37.10 with Graham Wightman ninth in 4:46.27.

Clare McLaughlin was eighth in the 300 in 45.72. 

Corning won the girls’ 1600 relay in 4:14.14 and the boys race in 3:30.30. 

Corning’s girls took second in the 3200 relay in 10:25.98 and the boys won in 8:22.50. 

The Hawks own the girls’ 4x200 relay in 1:46.94 with the boys taking fifth in 1:42.05. 

Jennings was third in the pole vault at 13-feet, 6-inches followed by Wentzel at the same height. Connor Calkins was eighth at 9-feet, 6-inches followed by Connor Harrington at 9-feet. 

Reese Conway won the girls’ pole vault at 11-feet, with Lauren Williams sixth at 8-feet. 

Emelia Smith was ninth in the high jump at 4-feet, 5-inches. Jacob Page was eighth in the boys’ high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches. 

Collins was ninth in the shot put at 41-feet, 1-inch. 

Kailee Davis was eighth in the girls’ shot put at 30-feet, 1-inch and Samantha Harvey was 10th at 27-feet.

Cella McLaughlin won the long jump at 18-feet, 11 1/4-inches, which was a foot and 9 1/2-inches better than anyone else in the field. Devlin was fourth at 16-feet, 8 1/2-inches. 

Jacob Deneka was seventh in the long jump at 19-feet, 7 1/2-inches and Dwayne Gardiner was 10th at 19-feet, 1 1/4-inches. 

Gardiner was ninth in the triple jump at 39-feet, 5 3/4-inches followed by Joshua Fajardo at 39-feet, 4 1/4-inches. 

McEwen was second in the triple jump at 34-feet, 2 3/4-inches. McDonald was second in the 300 in 36.46. Zac Radnitz was ninth at 38.79. 

Collins was third in the weight throw at 61-feet, 2-inches with Kai Huttleston sixth at 49-feet, 8 1/4-inches. 

Harvey was second in the weight throw at 41-feet, 7-inches with Davis fourth at 34-feet, 1/4-inches. Caitlyn Harrison was fifth at 32-feet, 6 1/4-inches. 

Lillian Deuerlein was fifth in the 1500 race walk in 9:16.54 followed by Caroline Welch at 9:19.82. Uma Palma Tree Thutaram was eighth at 10:09.93.
