SECTION 4 TRACK AND FIELD: HORSEHEADS ATHLETES EARN TRIP TO STATES (24 PHOTOS) (February 22, 2026)

ITHACA — Horseheads had state qualifiers in five events to highlight the efforts by Horseheads, Elmira, Notre Dame and Edison at the Section IV Track and Field State qualifiers. 

Nicholas Kowal won the 1600 to make states, running a 4:25.34. 

Patrick Laney, Chase Luangsuwan, arco Cipolla and Baraka Schmidt won the 4x200 relay in 1:34.06 to make states. 

Mackenzie Baker was second in the 1000 to make states in 3:06.53. She was just .06 behind the winner, Eva DiNunzio-Welch of Binghamton. Baker took third in the 1600 in 4:59.64 to make the intersectional relay in the distance. Ella Devlin of Elmira was 10th in 5:21.91. 

Laney was third in 6.59 in the 55 meters and made his way to states. 

Horseheads’ Luangsuwan was fifth in the 55 in 6.74. Carver Robbins of Horseheads was sixth in the 300 in 38.30.

Allen Wetmore of Horseheads was ninth in the 1000 in 2:47.09. 

Elmira’s boys took eighth in 3:45.16 followed by Horseheads in 3:48.46 in the 1600 relay. 

Tyler Sherry was seventh in the 600 in 1:27.94 followed by Elmira’s Chase Smith in 1:28.03. 

The Blue Raiders finished fourth in the 3200 relay in 8:39.85.

Darien Coprew of Elmira was fifth in the high jump at 5-feet, 8-inches followed by Notre Dame’s Antonio Campanella at the same height. 

In the boys’ triple jump John-Charles Walton of Elmira was sixth at 41-feet, 2 1/4-inches. Smith of Elmira was eighth at 40-feet, 1 3/4-inches. 

Edison’s Hannah Lasko was eighth in the 55 meters in 8.10 and Anais Dailey of Elmira was 10th in 7.82 followed by Edison’s Richelle Jochem in 7.87.

Lasko was third in the 300 in 42.40. Horseheads’ Avery Howarth was 10th in the 600 in 1:53.33. 

Horseheads’ Erica Bancroft was seventh in the 55 hurdles in 9.84 and Jochem was 10th for Edison in 10.17 followed by Elmira’s Azavyanna Morgan (10.19). 

Elmira was fourth in the 4x200 relay in 1:56.87 and Horseheads was sixth in 1:59.25. Elmira was fifth in the 1600 relay in 4:28.82 and Horseheads was 10th in 4:48.56. 

In the 3200 relay Elmira took fourth in 10:47.28. Morgan was ninth in the long jump at 14-feet, 7 3/4-inches. 

Naudia Inness of Elmira was fourth in the triple jump at 33-feet, 7 1/4-inches. Madison Bancroft of Horseheads was ninth at 31-feet, 2 1/4-inches. 

Leilani Nick of Elmira was 10th in the weight throw at 25-feet, 6 1/2-inches. 

Stella Harrison of Horseheads was third in the 1500 meter race walk in 9:39.16.
