STAC BOYS' BASKETBALL: CORNING SUFFERS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON AS SETON EGES HAWKS ON FINAL SECOND THREE BY DEMPSEY (February 21, 2026)

CORNING — Brian Dempsey hit a last-second three as the Seton Catholic boys’ basketball team edged Corning 66-63 to capture the STAC Championship, handing the Hawks their first loss of the season.

Seton jumped out to a big lead early, but the Hawks fought back in the game.

Seton Catholic led 24-13 after one quarter and they were up 37-28 at the half.

Corning outscored Seton 20-14 in the third to get within 51-48 after three quarters. 

Nolyn Proudfoot led Corning with 22 points, while adding nine rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Kyler Stevenson had 18 points, with nine boards, six steals and an assist and Kohl Hogue and Carter Proudfoot each finished with 10 points.

Hogue had six assists, three boards and a steal and Proudfoot had four rebounds and two assists. 

Teigen Gill had three points and three assists, with a rebound.

Allen Eagles led Seton with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Dempsey and Malik Wimberly each finished with 14 points.

Angelo O’Connor and Liam Kozel each finished with 11 points. 

Both teams ar enow 19-1 on the year. Seton is ranked second in Class AA and Corning is 17th in AAA.

Corning plays the winner of Elmira an d Ithaca at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, March 6 in the sectional final. Elmira and Ithaca meet at 6 p.m. Saturday at Ithaca.
