SECTION 4 INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING BOYS AND GIRLS WIN TITLES, LOCALS SHINE AT SECTIONALS (24 PHOTOS) (February 11, 2026)

ITHACA — The Corning boys won their 15th straight sectional indoor track and field title, and the girls won their 12th straight at the SEction IV Championships at Cornell University. 

The boys won at 153, followed by Ithaca at 101. Horseheads was third at 55 and Elmira was 10th at 15 points. 

The Corning girls won at 222 with Ithaca second at 54. Elmira was fifth at 43 and Horseheads seventh at 27. Edison was 12th in C/D at 15 points with Notre Dame 20th at eight points. Edison was ninth at 16 points in C/D. 

Horseheads, Corning and Elmira competed in the Class A/B Championship and Edison and Notre Dame were in C/D. 

In the 55 meters Patrick Laney of Horseheads won the A/B in 6.60 and teammate Chase Luangsuwan was third in 6.77 followed by Logan Durand (6.80). Jacob Deneka was sixth in 6.94. 

Wyatt McDonald of Corning was second in the 300 in 36.67 and Edison’s Nikko Cheplick was fourth in C/D in 37.85. Ryan Calkins of Corning was seventh in A/B in 37.17 with Carver Robbins of Horseheads ninth in 38.10. 

Bryce Hammond of Corning was fourth in the 600 in 1:27.50 followed by Elmira’s Chase Smith (1:28.51) and Tyler Sherry of Horseheads in 1:28.54. Charles Warner of Corning was ninth in 1:30.13 followed by Horseheads’ Dominick Marino (1:30.18).

Nicholas Kowal won the 1000 meters, and had the best time of all the classes, in 2:32.69. Corning’s Sebastian Boutwell was third in 2:34.35 followed by teammate Nicholas Ferratella (2:34.51). Corning’s Warner was sixth in 2:44.75. 

Boutwell won Class A/B in the 1600 in 4:38.35 followed by Ferratella (4:39.90). Ashtyn Stark of Corning was fourth (4:42.13) followed by Jack Sydlansky of Horseheads (4:45.02). Jameson Duggan of Edison was fifth in C/D in 4:59.20 and Allen Wetmore of Horseheads was seventh in A/B in 5:00.60. 

Chris Lawson of Corning won the 3200 with the top overall time in 9:30.80 followed by Hammond (9:32.68). Graham Wightman of Corning was sixth in 10:25.77. Gavin Meier of Notre Dame was seventh in C/D in 10:45.04. 

Ethan Wentzel of Corning won the 55 hurdles for A/B in 8.09 and Adrian Blouin of Corning was fourth in 8.70. Elmira’s Benjamin Marshall was eighth in 9.72. 

In the 4x200 relay Horseheads’ Laney, Luangswuan, Marco Cipolla and Baraka Schmidt won overall in 1:34.27. 

Corning won the 1600 for Class A/B in 3:31.85. Edison won C/D in 3:40.82 with a team of Zach Sternfels, Auggie Ector, Duggan and Cheplick. Horseheads was fourth (3:42.47) and Elmira sixth (3:50.55) in Class A/B.

Kowal, Sydlansky, Marino and Wetmore won the 3200 relay for Horseheads in 8:50.90, the top overall time, and Corning was second in A/B in 8:59.34. Elmira was sixth in 9:52.87.

Corning’s Jacob Page was third in the high jump at 5-feet, 8-inches followed by Darien Coprew of Elmira (5-feet, 5-inches). Antonio Campanella was eighth for C/D at 5-feet, 5-inches and Jeri’miah Wilson of Elmira was sixth in A/B at 5-feet, 2-inches. Avery Wilcox was seventh for Corning at 4-feet, 8-inches. 

Dexter Badger was fourth in the long jump at 19-feet, 7 3/4-inches. Dwayne Gardiner of Corning was seventh at 19-feet, 4-inches followed by Deneka at 19-feet, 3 1/4-inches. Aeden Marreo of Notre Dame was ninth in C/D at 18-feet, 2 3/4-inches. Campanella was 10th at 17-feet, 5 1/2-inches. 

Joshua Fajardo of Corning was second in the triple jump at 39-feet, 11-inches in A/B followed by Chase Smith of Elmira at 39-feet, 8 3/4-inches. Gardiner was seventh at 38-feet, 10 1/2-inches followed by Elmira’s John-Charles Walton (38-feet, 8-inches) and Page (38-feet) and Jarryd Witzel of Horseheads (37-feet, 7-inches).

Maxwell Jennings of Corning took second in the pole vault at 13-feet, 6-inches with Wetzel fourth at 12-feet, followed by teammate Connor Calkins (10-feet, 6-inches).

Corning’s Freddie Collins was third in the shot put at 42-feet, 1 2/-inches and Brogan McLaughlin of Horseheads took fifth at 37-feet, 4-inches followed by Corning’s Gabriel Ferratella (37-feet, 2 1/4-inches). 

Collins was second in the weight throw at 60-feet, 4-inches and teammate Kai Huttleston was sixth at 49-feet, 11-inches. 

Corning’s Mattisen Johnston won Class A/B in the 55 meters in 7.41 and teammate Claire Devlin was third at 7.59. Hannah Lasko of Edison was seventh in C/D at 7.82. Elmira’s Arrianna Jones was fourth in A/B in 7.89 followed by teammate Anais Dailey (7.90) and Horseheads’ Madison Bancroft (7.93) and teammate Morgan Adams (8.11). 

Cella McLaughlin of Corning won the A/B 300 meters in 42.57. Lasko was third in C/D at 42.84. Johnston was third in A/B in 44.30 and Jones was seventh in 46.10. Kadence Adams of Horseheads was eighth in 46.87. 

Corning’s Chinonyerem Okoro was fourth in the 600 in 1:44.30 and Molly Doran of Elmira was sixth in 1:50.25. Elise Gulati of Horseheads was ninth in 1:53.60 and Hadley Murray of Corning was 10th in 1:56.90.

Elmira’s Ella Devlin was third in the 1000 in 3:18.85 with Gabriella Hurd of Corning fifth in 3:19.52. Sophia Jones of Horseheads was 10th in 3:36.24. 

Olivia Martinec of Corning was second in the 1500 in 5:02.75 followed by Horseheads’ Mackenzie Baker in 5:04.70. Bella Martinec of Corning was sixth in 5:13.93 followed by Elmira’s Addie Fenton (5:24.72). 

Olivia Martinec won the 3000 in 10:41.99 and teammate Kateland Dininny was third in 11:13.24. Madelyn Wise of Elmira was sixth in 11:49.72 and Kaitlyn Lee of Corning was eighth in 12:12.29. Madison Hubschmitt of Edison was fifth in 12;44.60. 

McLaughlin won the 55 hurdles in 7.94 and Clare McLaughlin was second in 9.42 followed by Erica Bancroft of Horseheads in 9.84. 

Corning won the 4x200 relay in 1:55.33 and Morgan Adams, Erica Bancroft, Emma Guzylak and Karina Lapierre took second for Horsheads in 1:58.43. Edison was fourth in C/D hat 2:01.77 followed by Notre Dame in 2:03.47. 

The Hawks won the 1600 relay in 4:13.86. Elmira was fourth in 4:34.25 followed by Horseheads in 4:36.30. Edison was sixth in C/D in 5:40.01.

Corning was second in the 3200 relay in 10:30.08 followed by Elmira (10:48.62) and Horseheads (11:09.90). Edison was fifth in C/D in 13:04.77.

Dailey was second in the A/B high jump at 4-feet, 7-inches followed by Okoro (4-feet, 7-inches). Hurd was seventh at 3-feet, 10-inches.

Cella McLaughlin won the long jump overall at 19-feet, 1/4-inches followed in /aB by Johnston (16-feet, 6 1/4-inches) and Claire Devlin (16-feet, 3 1/4-inches). Azavyanna Morgan of Elmira was sixth in 14-feet, 2 1/-2-inches. Caitlin Keenan of Notre Dame was 10th in C/D at 12-feet, 9 3/4-inches. 

Amanda McEwen won the triple jump overall at 34-feet. Naudia Inness was fourth in A/B at 32-feet, 7 3/4-inches followed by Corning’s Alisyn Conway (32-feet, 1 1/2-inches). Veronica Nevins of Corning was sixth at 31-feet, 8 1/4-inches. Eleanor Green of Notre Dame was third in C/D at 31-feet, 5 1/2-inches and Madison Bancroft was seventh in A/B was seventh at 30-feet, 9 3/4-inches. 

Reese Conway won the pole vault overall at 11-feet, 6-inches. Madison Farrell of Corning was fourth at 7-feet, 6-inches followed by teammate Lauren Williams (7-feet). 

Kailee Davis of Corning was second in the shot put at 31-feet, 1 1/2-inches while teammate Samantha Harvey was fourth at 29-feet, 11 3/4-inches followed by teammate Sophie Schoonover (29-feet, 4 3/4-inches). Elmira’s Verneece Sumner was seventh at 26-feet, 10-inches. Elmira’s Leilani Nick was eighth at 25-feet, 6 1/4-inches followed by Amelia Reed of Horseheads at 25-feet. 

Harvey won the weight throw at 46-feet, 8 3/4-inches. Davis was third at 32-feet, 11-inches followed by Sumner (30-feet, 8 3/4-inches). Nick was fifth at 25-feet, 8 1/4-inches. 

In the 1500 race walk Lillian Deuerlein of Corning was first in A/B at 9:11.46. Caroline Welch of Corning was second in 9:53.61 followed by Uma Palma Tree Thutaram at 10:02.59.
