HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: HORSEHEADS TOPS CANISTEO-GREENWOOD IN MATCHUP OF STATE-RANKED TEAMS (February 11, 2026)

HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads girls’ basketball team won a matchup of state-ranked teams as they beat Canisteo-Greenwood 53-46 on Tuesday night.

Horseheads is ranked sixth in the state in AA and Canisteo-Greenwood is second in Class C.

Maddie Ribble had a career-high 25 points for Horseheads and Sammie Bonnell had 11 points.

“One of the best opponents we saw this year,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “Physical, talented, and athletic. Down six at halftime, and we had a 13-point swing in the third and nailed free throws down the stretch to seel it. Maggie Tremaine knocked down a three and two free throws to seal it.”

Tremaine had seven points and Giana Hughey had four points. Mya Piecuch and Ellie Jankowski each had three points.

Horseheads led 12-10 after one quarter, but Canisteo-Greenwood outscored the Blue Raiders 16-8 in the second to go up 26-20 at the half. The Blue Raiders outscored Canisteo-Greenwood 20-7 in the third to go ahead.
