IAC GIRLS' BASKETBALL: WILD FINISH AS EDISON GIRLS FINISH STRONG IN EMPTY GYM TO TOP ND (24 PHOTOS) (February 10, 2026)

Southern Tier Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — One of the wilder nights on a basketball court ended with Edison’s girls basketball team notching a 46-43 win over rival Notre Dame in front of no fans at the end of the game.

Edison, who had four wins on the year coming in, took down sectional bound Notre Dame, leading by six at the half, and then coming back late after trailing by five in the fourth quarter.

“It’s great to see the kids finally come together and play the way we knew they could play all season,” Edison catch Marshall Ferrari said. “Finally healthy too, which doesn’t hurt anything to have everybody back. To see the hard work they put in all year come together is great.”

Edison led 10-3 after one quarter and 21-15 at the half. Notre Dame came back and led 36-31 after three quarters, before Edison held the Crusaders to seven fourth-quarter points.

There was a lot of adversity for Edison in the fourth quarter. Down five after three, the team also played the final quarter in front of empty stands. After multiple fans were ejected from the game the decision was made to clear the gym in the final seconds of the third quarter.

“Resiliency is something I preach a lot,” Ferrari said. “There is going to be a lot of adversity in life and I’m very, very proud of how they battled through that adversity in the game, through all of it. They could have given up very easily in that fourth quarter and they battled back and won.”

There were some moments where the players showed some emotions on the bench after the gym was cleared. However, Edison’s players quickly refocused on the game.

“We lost it for a second there, and we were able to bring it back in,” Ferrari said. “That’s really what I’m most proud of is their ability to bring it back in. Play basketball, finish the basketball game and finish the game off.

“First year as a varsity coach and hopefully this is the one and only time I have to do this.”

Without the fans supporting the teams in the fourth the players on the bench brought the energy that helped propel the Spartans to the win.

“That’s the thing, the kids on the bench, from the last kid to the sixth man, all of them being in the game and involved,” Ferrari said. “Being good teammates, cheering on their teammates, that means the world to me as a coach.”

Mali Huffner had 24 points, with three threes and she was 9-for-13 from the free throw line. She was 5-for-6 from the line in the fourth. She had three first-half threes.

Hailey Clark had eight points for Edison and Addison Vendzzules finished with seven points.

Camden Hoffmann had three points and Teresa Carter and Matteson Brush each finished with two points.

For the younger players this win can help build some momentum for next year.

“Get everything going for next season,” Ferrari said. “A really nice way for us to finish the year and hopefully we can finish with a couple more W’s and get ready for next year with the young kids.”

For the seniors this was a big moment as they end their careers.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my seniors and the way they led this team all year,” Ferrari said. “The way they continue to work, with us not going to sectionals and these final few games they could have easily come out here and gave up and they chose to come out here and work and the results speak for themselves.”

Payton Sutryk led Notre Dame with eight points and Emily Coseo and Maci McWhorter each finished with eight points, while Kalysta DeMark added seven points.

Lauren Coseo finished with six points and Fatoumata Coulibaly had two points.
