HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: HORSEHEADS PICKS UP NON-LEAGUE WIN OVER AVERILL PARK (January 23, 2026)

ALBANY — The Horseheads girls’ basketball team picked up a 57-34 win over Averill Park on Friday night.

Horseheads played Averill Park while Elmira played Shenendehowa and the two teams switch opponents Saturday.

Maggie Tremaine and Maddie Ribble each had 16 points in the game and Giana Hughey had 12 points, while Sammie Bonnell had nine points and a career-high 12 assists.

“Girls had a great second half against a two-time state champ,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “Very physical game and the girls came out strong after half. Defense ball pressure and interior defense was very good. Excellent team effort.”

Ellie Jankowski and Mya Piecuch had two points each in the game.
