HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING'S MCLAUGHLIN BREAKS SECTIONAL LJ RECORD AT QUINNEY INVITE (24 PHOTOS) (January 4, 2026)
Southern Tier Sports ReportITHACA — Corning’s Cella McLaughlin broke the Section IV long jump record to highlight the local success at the Quinney Invitaitonal at Cornell University.
McLaughlin won the event with a jump of 19-feet, 4-inches, breaking the sectional mark. Mattisen Johnston was third at 16-feet, 5 1/2-inches and Isadora Cyr was fourth at 15-feet, 5 3/4-inches. Lauren DeRosa was sixth at 15-feet, 2 3/4-inches followed by Elmira’s Azavyanna Morgan at 15-feet and Madison Farrell at 14-feet, 11-inches.
McLaughlin also won the 300 overall in 41.19. Hannah Lasko of Edison was third in small school in 44.19 while Claire Devlin of Corning was fourth in large school in 44.67. Brooklyn Gordon of Corning was eighth in 46.40.
In the girls 55 Johnston was third in large school in 7.57 and teammate Lauren DeRosa was fourth in 7.66.
In the boys 55 meters Patrick Laney of Horseheads won large school in 6.62 with teammate Chas Luangsuwan third in large school at 6.79.
In the 3000 meters Olivia Martinec won overall in 10:29 and Ella Devlin of Elmira was second in large school at 11:18.6 followed by Kateland Dininny in 11:35.21. Edison’s Emma Dugan was sixth in small school at 14:33.13 with Millie Kierst of Elmira sixth in large school at 13:49.84.
In the girls’ 1000 Gabriella Hurd of Corning was fourth in large school at 3:22.86 and teammate Abigail Wagner was seventh in 3:27.95.
Nicholas Kowal of Horseheads won the large-school race in the 1000 in 2:35.67 followed by Nicholas Ferratella of Corning in 2:36.97. Charles Warner of Corning was fifth in 2:45 and Samuel Kirk of Corning was eighth in 2:50.58.
Alisyn Conway of Corning was fourth in large school in the girls’ 600 in 1:50.32 and teammate Chinonyerem Okoro was fifth in 1:50.02 with Horseheads’ Karina Lapierre seventh in 1:52.87.
Elmira’s Jadon Lagonegro was fourth in large school in the boys’ 600 in 1:29.41 while Zachary Sternfels of Edison was fourth in small school in 1:34.25.
In the girls’ 1500 Edison’s Madison Hubschmitt was fourth in small school in 5:52.76 while Molly Doran of Elira was fifth in large school in 5:38.23. Kaitlyn Lee of Corning was sixth in 5:43.33.
Jack Sydlansky of Horseheads was third in the large school in the 1600 in 4:55.28 and Connor Harrington of Corning was sixth in 5:00.79 followed by Andrew Miller in 5:00.81.
Corning had the top overall time in the girls’ 1600 relay in 4:25.23 and Elmira was fifth in large school in 4:51.07 with Horseheads eighth in 5:12.81. The Corning boys won in 3:41.73. Elmira was third in 3:55.46.
Wyatt McDonald of Corning was second in large school in the 300 in 36.39 and teammate Ryan Calkins was fourth in 37.68. John Graham was eighth in 39.23.
Corning’s girls won the 3200 relay overall in 10:59.40 with Elmira second in 11:03.78. Corning’s boys won overall in 8:38.91 and Horseheads was third in 9:02.60.
Corning won the 4x200 relay in 1:48.10 and Elmira was third in 1:58.70 followed by Horseheads in 2:01.92. Edison was sixth in small school in 2:07.54. For the boys Horseheads won overall in 1:34.87 and Corning was fourth in 1:39.98.
Corning’s Maxwell Jennings won the pole vault at 13-feet, 6-inches and teamate Than Wentzel was third at 12-feet, 6-inches. Harrington was seventh at 8-feet with teammate Connor Calkins eighth at 8-feet.
Reese Conway won the girls’ pole vault at 10-feet with teammate Lauren Williams third at 8-feet followed by teammate Madison Farrell at 7-feet.
Okoro was third in the high jump at 4-feet, 11-inches and Hurd was seventh at 4-feet, 3-inches. For the boys Darien Coprew of Elmira was fourth at 5-feet, 3-inches.
Freddie Collins was fifth in the shot put at 42-feet, 1 3/4-inches and Gabriel Ferratella was seventh at 38-feet, 5 1/2-inches.
Sophie Schoonover was fourth in the girls’ shot at 27-feet, 2 1/4-inches and Taleigh Sheppard was sixth at 26feet, 6 1/2-inches with Elmira’s Verneece Sumner seventh at 26-feet, 6 1/4-inches followed by Amelia Reed of Horseheads at 26-feet, 5 1/4-inches.
John-Charles Warner of Elmira was fifth in the boys’ long jump at 19-feet, 11 1/4-inches followed by Corning’s Dexter Badger (19-feet, 10-inches) and Jacob Deneka (19-feet, 3 1/4-inches).
Dwayne Gardiner of Corning was sixth in the triple jump at 37-feet, 8-inches and for the girls’ Claire Devlin of Corning was second at 35-feet, 6 1/4-inches followed by Naudia Inness of Elmira at 33-feet, 1-inch. Alisyn Conway of Corning was seventh at 31-feet, 7 3/4-inches followed by Madison Bancroft of Horseheads at 30-feet, 9 1/4-inches.
Stella Harrison of Horseheads won the 1500 race walk in 7:54.17 followed by Corning’s Lillian Deuerlein (9:39.88) and Caroline Welch (10:13.63) and Liesel Despain (10:14.18) and Uma Palma Tree Thutaram (10:14.45).
Elmira was second in the girls’ 4x55 shuttle hurdle relay in 40.46. In the boys race Corning won in 37.21.
Collins was fourth in the weight throw at 53-feet, 9 3/4-inches and teammate Kai Huttleston was sixth at 45-feet, 10 1/4-inches. Landon Baumgardner of Edison was seventh in small school at 26-feet, 2 1/4-inches.
For the girls Schoonover was third at 29-feet, 9 1/2-inches and teammate Caitlyn Harrison was fifth at 25-feet, 7 1/2-inches followed by Elmira’s Leilani Nick at 24-feet, 1/2-inches.
Corning won for the boys large shcool at 94 points with Horseheads fourth at 48 and Elmira eighth at 16. Edison was 16th in small school with 10. Corning girls won at 164 with Elmira fourth at 38 and Horseheads 11th at 14. Edison girls were 12th in small school with 12 points.
