HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA FALLS IN TITLE GAME AT PALMER HOLIDAY CLASSIC (24 PHOTOS) (December 30, 2025)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Elmira girls’ basketball team fell to St. Mary’s of Lancaster 96-48 in the championship game of the girls’ national division at the Josh Palmer Fund Elmira Holiday Classic.
““St. Mary’s is an outstanding team, and they may have had the girls team to ever compete in this tournament. They’re also one of the top teams in New York State right now. I’m proud of our kids for fighting and competing for 32 minutes. I know the scoreboard shows what it shows, but we learned a lot about ourselves today and throughout this tournament,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said.
“To finish second in a tournament of this caliber is a big step for our program. This experience will help prepare us for the rest of the season, and it gives us a foundation to build on moving forward.”
Mariah Matias was named to the all-tournament team for Elmira.
“I’m proud of all of our kids for how they competed. Congratulations to Mariah Matias on being named to the All-Tournament Team — she played extremely well all weekend. We also had several players come off the bench and give us positive minutes and contributions.
“We’re still working through some growing pains, but moments like this will make us better. This group is learning, growing, and taking steps forward, and I’m proud of the direction we’re headed.”
Matias had 20 points for Elmira in the game and Ava Roberts finished with 13 points.
Meya Smith had six points and Abigail Valicenti had four points, while McKenzie Dickerson had three points and Kayvonna King finished with two points.
Mila Bissett led St. Mary’s with 26 points. She was the tournament MVP.
