HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA GIRLS RALLY FOR OT WIN AT PALMER TOURNEY (December 27, 2025)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Elmira girls’ basketball team rallied late for a 59-56 overtime win over Aquinas at the Josh Palmer Fund Holiday Classic on Saturday.
“This was a great team effort,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “A lot of kids stepped up for us. It was tough, and we had to be resilient — and today we were.
“Coming off two tough losses, we needed to refocus and rediscover our identity. I thought in the second half and in overtime we really found out who we are. I’m proud of our kids and we’re looking forward to another tough one Monday.”
Aquinas led by six with just over two minutes left, but Elmira scored the final six points of the game to force overtie.
Mariah Matias led Elmira with 26 and Meya Smith had 17 points. Loren Green had 22 for Aquinas.
Matias had 23 over the final three quarters and 15 in the second half. Smith had 12 in the second half.
Ava Roberts had six points and Lizzy Hunter finished with five for Elmira. Tamiah Brown and Avery McCauley each had one point in the game.
