HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: HORSEHEADS GETS OFF TO FAST START IN WIN OVER KEARNEY (December 27, 2025)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Horseheads Blue Raiders got off to a dominant start in a 67-27 win over Bishop Kearney on Saturday at the Josh Palmer Fund Holiday Classic.
“Opening quarter we scored 31 points and must have shot 80%,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “Kids were locked in and played really hard.”
Horsheeads led 31-8 after one quarter on their way to the win.
Maddie Ribble had 17 points to lead four players in double figures for the Blue Raiders.
Sammie Bonnell had 13 points, Sadie Gustin had 12 and Maggie Tremaine finished with 10 points.
Tremaine had all of her points in the opening quarter and Ribble had eight in the first quarter, while Gustin had six and Bonnell had four in the opening eight minutes.
Lexi Lese had six points on a pair of threes and Peyton Butts, Ellie Jankowski and Giana Hughey all had three points. Horseheads hit nine threes in the game.
