SECTION 4 WRESTLING: HORSEHEADS EDGED IN PAIR OF MATCHES(December 19, 2025) Southern Tier Sports Report WAVERLY — The shorthanded Horseheads wrestling team dropped a pair of close matches on Friday night.
Horseheads fell to Vestal 39-38 and Newark Valley 44-34. The Blue Raiders were without a few standouts on the day, including Zachary Schrage and Jaxson Burchard, who are 24-0 between them this year.
Against Vestal at 103 Vestal’s Brayden Rebello won by forfeit and at 110 Raf Haque of Vestal pinned Nolan Miller in 3:14.
Josh Knapp of Horseheads won by technical fall 21-6 in 5:52 over Jim Sysen at 118 and at 125 Tanner Knapp pinned Thomas Jackson in 1;_4.
Nick Hardy of Vestal won 10-8 over Damian Saks at 132 and at 138 Gavin Hornsby of Horseheads won 3-1 over Jimmy Kaminsky.
Kole Zufall of Horseheads pinned Jacob Nestle in 1:35 and at 150 Tyler Barr of Horseheads got a forfeit win.
Connor Brubaker of Vestal pinned Trent Woodward in 5:37 at 157 and at 165 Wyatt Campbell of Horseheads pinned Braedan Moreno in 5:00.
Shazyar Rashid of Vestal pinned Ryan Huang in 3:17 at 175 and at 190 Vestal’s Seth Carlton pinned Joseph Saks in 27 seconds.
Connor Warrick of Horseheasd pinned Tye Jashan in 4:31 at 215 and at 285 Jayden Harding of Vestal pinned Zachary Kaiser in 40 seconds.
Against Newark Valley at 103 Newark Valley’s Sheldon Houston pinned Trace Woodward in 2:29 and at 110 Nolan Miller of Horseheads won by technical fall 24-6 in 5:46 over Avery Davis.
Josh Knapp won by technical fall 16-1 in 5:47 over Andrew Lelik at 118 and at 126 Tanner Knapp pinned Kenny Slater in 49 seconds.
Nate Miiller of Horseheads pinned Jacob Shipman in 3:19 at 132 and Hornsby pinned Leland Houston in 5:26 at 138.
Logan Rhodes of Newark Valley won 14-10 over Zufall at 144 and at 150 Marcos Escalante of Newark Valley won by technical fall 18-0 in 3:39 over Trent Woodward.
Anthony Kunze of Newark Valley got a forfeit win at 157 and at 165 Logan Woodin of Newark Valley pinned Campbell in 50 seconds at 165 and at 175 Elijah Williams pinned Huang in 1:00 at 175.
