SECTION 4 GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NEW COACH, NEW SEASON FOR EDISON GIRLS (12 PHOTOS) (November 19, 2025)
BY BRIAN FEESSouthern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — It’s a new season with a new coach for the Edison girls’ basketball team as they hit the court to start pracctices for the new season this week.
“Excited for the season, excited to get started,” Edison coach Marshall Ferrari said. “Have a great group of kids here, so excited to work with them.”
Ferrari is ready to begin his first season as the team’s coach.
“Big shoes to fill with the previous coach leaving, but super excited to get to work and get those kids playing some basketball,” Ferrari said.
The previous coach, Chris Mallette, is coaching the boys now, which has him nearby if Ferrari ever needs to talk.
“Chris is always a text message or a phone call away,” Ferrari said. “He’s a great guy, so I’m excited to still have him around the program.”
It’s a younger roster for the Spartans this year.
“We are going to be a young group this year,” Ferrari said. “But, I think there is a lot of hard work, a lot of commitment from those kids, so I’m excited to work with them.
“Just the level of willing to learn, a level of wanting to be here and being committed to the sport, so I’m super excited to see how far they can take it.”
And, the returning players on the roster are a help to the younger kids.
“Mali Huffner and Cammy Hoffmann coming back, two seniors who will lead the group,” Ferrari said. “Addison (Vendzules), just a bunch of good kids who are still here. So, I’m excited to have their leadership with the young kids we will have.”
