CHENANGO VALLEY — Elmira’s Ella Devlin is headed back to states after a sixth-place finish in the Section IV, Class A Championships at Chenango Valley State Park.

Devlin took sixth in 20:37.70 to earn the trip back to the state championships.

“Honestly (felt) great,” Devlin said. “I’m really trying to take everything in, each moment, everything. It’s great, I worked really hard to get here so I’m proud of myself for sure.”

For Devlin the mindset wasn’t worrying about what others did, it was focusing on her own race.

“Going into it, honestly, I just wanted to focus on my mindset and my confidence,” Devlin said. “I knew having a positive mindset really does get you where you want to be. I was just trying to go out there and have a good time.

The course was a little muddy, and slick at times, but Devlin made the best of it.

“The last couple of years the weather has been so different,” Devlin said. “The course, definitely a challenge with the mud and the hills mixed together. But, who doesn’t like getting a little dirty out there.”
