COLLEGE SOCCER: ELMIRA GRAD OLDROYD SCORES IN BACK-TO-BACK GAMES FOR LIU (2021-09-06)

Elmira grad Kendra Oldroyd has found the net in back-to-back games for the Division I Long Island University women’s soccer team.

On Thursday LIU faced the University of Vermont on the road. The host Catamount managed to score the game-winning goal 90 seconds in to the second overtime period, taking the win, 2-1.

Vermont took the lead early in the game, scoring on a corner in the first four minutes. But LIU's defense locked it down, and the home team would score again in regulation. The two teams would continue to battle, as UVM put the pressure on, out-shooting LIU 26-4. Shark keeper Kayla DeTreux made nine saves to keep her team in the game.

It was Oldroyd would tie the game up in the second half. The senior scored in the 71st minute on a pass from Mackenzie Morano to knot the game up, 1-1, eventually forcing it to overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the two teams went to the second 10-minute span, and that's where Vermont finally cashed in. The home team scored just over 90 seconds into the action, ending the game after 101 minutes, 2-1.

On Sunday the LIU Hawks dropped a heartbreaker to Manhattan.

The first half of the game was scoreless, with only a couple of registered shots on net between the two squads. But in the second half, the scoring got started. LIU got on the board in the 68th minute, when Oldroyd sored off a corner kick from Morano. Oldroyd headed the ball over the Manhattan keeper, putting LIU up, 1-0.

Oldroyd, who finished her high school career as the all-time leading goal scorer for the Express has both of LIU’s goals this season.
