SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: ELMIRA CELEBRATES HOMECOMING WITH WIN OVER VESTAL (24 PHOTOS) (2025-10-10)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — Leading 35-20 after three quarters, the Elmira Express held off Vestal 42-40 to win their homecoming game on Friday night.
“It feels great to win, it was a touch one, but we got it done,” senior Dash Harris said. “Switched some things up, but it worked at the end of the day. Give a lot of credit to sophomore Ryan Goble. Moved up to varsity and started his first game. We had a lot of players step up when needed, especially Willie Walker and Arius Bradbury.
“We will keep on working hard and put in the work to turn the season around. But, for now we’re going to have a good time at Homecoming and enjoy this win.”
Vestal struck first as Grayson Burns hauled in a 30-yard pass from Josh Kweller and Preston Antesberger hit the extra point at 7:56.
Elmira then got their first of two defensive scores in the game as William Walker had a 53-yard pick six and Ben Guyette hit the extra point at 4:32 to tie things at 7-7.
Julian Adams gave Vestal the lead back at 8:20 of the second quarter and Antesberger hit the extra point to make it 14-7.
Cayden Wright hauled in a 45-yard touchdown from Ryan Goble and Guyette hit the ick at 6:56 to tie the game at 14.
Arius Bradbury recovered a fumble in the end zone just 13 seconds later and Guyette hit the kick to put Elmira up 21-14.
Dash Harris had a one-yard run with 55 seconds left in the half and Guyette hit his fourth extra point to put Elmira up 28-14.
Vestal got within 28-20 as Kweller had a two-yard run at 6:58 of the third quarter. Cayden Wright blocked the extra point.
Bradbury caught a 52-yard touchdown pass from Goble with 4:35 left int he third and Guyette hit his fifth extra point.
Kweller scored on a nine-yard run at 6:22 and Antesberger hit the kick to make it 35-27. Elmira fumbled and Kweller then had a one-yard scoring run at 5:09. Kweller was stopped just short of the goal line to keep Elmira on top 35-33 with 5:09 left in the game.
Bradbury had a nine-yard scoring run with 1:57 left and Guyette hit his sixth extra point of the game.
Adams had a 57-yard touchdown catch from Kweller and Antesberger had the extra point to make it 42-40 with 46 seconds to go.
Goble recovered an onside kick in the final minute to seal the win.
Making his first start Goble was 4-for-6 passing for 140 yards and two scores. Bradbury had three grabs for 95 yards and Wright had a 45-yard catch.
Harris ran for 53 yards on 11 carries and Goble ran for 43 on 12 carries. Bradbury ran for 39 yards on seven carries and Julian Colon had six catches for 26 yards.
Kweller was 12-for-20 for 207 yards and two scores and two interceptions. Adams had four grabs for 114 yards, Grayson Burns had five catches for 70 yards and Gavin Brady had a 21-yard catch. Cayden Kitchin and Jake Stica had catches in the game.
Adams ran for 61 yards and Kitchin ran for 110 yards on 11 carries, while Kweller ran for 61 yards.
