IAC GIRLS' SOCCER: ND BLANKS WATKINS GLEN, 2-0 (2025-10-10)
Southern Tier Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — A scoreless game at the half, the Notre Dame girls scored two second half goals to top Watkins Glen 2-0 on Friday night.
The Express lost the first matchup with Watkins in a one-goal game in the rain earlier in the year.
“Extremely physical game played on both sides with just hard nose soccer,” Notre Dame coach Joe Picco said. “Remains scoreless at the half and Watkins Glen had the best of Notre Dame by half time by controlling the tempo of the game.
“We came into tonight changing our formation slightly to counter what we felt was a very athletic Watkins Glen team.”
With 27:10 left in the game Jhamariah Maxwell headed in a corner from Emily Coseo.
“Coseo couldn’t have played a better ball into the box,” Picco said. “After we got up 1-0 I stressed to the girls to continue to play soccer and not to become too defensive minded.
“Our last several matches with Watkins Glen we took a lead then worried too much about not losing instead of winning.”
With 16:30 left in the game Lizzie Young was fouled seven yards outside of the box. MK Young placed a great direct which went untouched by the goalie into the back of the net.
“Really proud of this group and their resilience,” Picco said. “Many teams would have buckled and called it in after a tough battle on Wednesday. But, this group answered the bell.”
