SECTION 4 BOYS' GOLF: ELMIRA WINS FIRST SECTIONAL GOLF TITLE; HORSEHEADS 4TH, CORNING 6TH (24 PHOTOS) (2025-10-07)
By Brian FeesSouthern Tier Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — The Elmira Express won their first ever Section IV Championship in boys’ golf on Monday, topping the field in Class A at Soaring Eagles.
Elmira shot 389, edging Maine-Endwell and Binghamton by one shot each. Horseheads A shot 402, tied with Vestal (402), followed by Corning (415), Ithaca and U-E (420 each) and Horseheads B (454).
“I am obviously very proud of how the Elmira squad came together and all played outstanding today,” Elmira coach Chris Sayers said. “It was a steady effort required to compete against some stiff competition and we had everyone at their best.
“Aiden Ranck, who finished third at 73, shot his personal best by seven strokes. Jackson Cavalier, who had been our leading scorer throughout the season, also came through big with a score of 77. Ryan Ferraro and Logan Demember both had their season low 18 hole scores at 82 as well as Logan Palmer’s score of 84. This is the first Section 4 golf title ever for the Elmira Express. I know that the team is very proud of their accomplishment, and I am humbled to be a part of their achievement.”
Ranck was third on the day, two shots over par and two shots back from winner Brady McManus of Binghamton, who shot an even-par 71.
Horseheads’ Seamus Lynch tied for sixth at 77 tied with Cavalier. Joe Cain and Hunter Earl of Horseheads tied for ninth at 78.
Hunter Akins of Corning tied for 12th at 79 followed by Isaiah Kibler at 80. Zach Balland, of Horseheads B, was 19th at 81.
Demember and Ferraro each shot 82 to tie for 20th and Bryce Clark tied for 24th at 82, along with Mo Cardinale of Horseheads.
Palmer tied for 30th at 84 and Carter Smithmen tied for 34th at 85. Jeff Cain was tied for 38th for Horseheads at 86 followed by Jackson Palumbo of Horseheads B and Finn Barber of Corning, both at 88.
Boedi Knapp of Horseheads tied for 42nd at 89 and Ethan Ford of Corning was tied for 46th at 93.
Ben Potter of Horseheads B shot a 94 to tie for 46th and Ben Potter of Horseheads B was next at 94, followed by teammate Kellen O’Shell (95) and Carson Bell (96). Elmira’s Quinn Hanrahan was 52nd at 100 and Jackson Bell of Horseheads was 54th at 106.
