NEWFIELD — The Edison girls’ soccer team was tied at the half, but were edged at Newfield on Monday, 1-0.

A goal with 1:52 remaining was the difference as Newfield scored on a shot from outside the top of the 18.

Newfield had 18 shots and five corner kicks and Edison had five shots and no corner kicks.

Newfield had three saves in goal and Kaylynn Tarby finished with 14 saves for Edison.

“Down a few players, we again found a way to battle and keep ourselves in a competitive game with a solid Newfield team that includes eight seniors,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “A very hard and bumpy field made it difficult to connect passes and find any sustained control for both sides, but we made good adjustments and found ways to create some better attacking space for ourselves in the second half.

“The effort from our back four and keeper also needs to be recognized as they worked incredibly hard to disrupt Newfield sustained attacks and were very unlucky to give up the late goal.”
