IAC GIRLS' SOCCER: MK YOUNG NETS HAT TRICK AS ND TOPS EDISON (24 PHOTOS) (2025-10-01) Southern Tier Sports Report SOUTHPORT — MK Young had a hat trick on Wednesday as the Notre Dame girls’ soccer team beat Edison 5-0 in IAC action.
Young, a Hofstra commit, scored three straight goals in the middle of the game.
The scoring started as Emily Coseo crossed a perfect corner into Jhamriah Maxwell for a header just 2:30 into the game to make it 1-0.
Caitlin Keenan fed the ball to Young at 29:07 and Young broke past the last defender and went one-on-one with the goalie scoring in the left flank to make it 2-0.
Maxwell and Young had a combination play with Maxwell feeding Young at 7:24 for the goal.
In the second young MK Young scored off a Lizzie Young assist and the last goal was a scrum in the box with Lizzie Young getting the goal.
“The first three goals are a result of what we have been working on in training,” Notre Dame coach Joe Picco said. “Give the girls a lot of credit with the tremendous energy they came out on senior night. We will continue to work on the moments of tight play in the box.
“I thought we had a lot of opportunities in the box that didn’t produce the result we worked toward, so we just need to train harder in the moments during the week. Give a lot of credit to the Edison girls, they play hard and are doing great things developing a program.”
Notre Dame had 23 shots and seven corners and Edison had four shots and two corner kicks.
Payton Sutryk had three saves for Notre Dame and Kaylynn Tarby had nine saves for the Spartans. ———— PHOTOS BY BRIAN FEES
