SECTION 4 GIRLS' TENNIS: HORSEHEADS TOPS ELMIRA FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON (2025-09-12)

HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads tennis team won their first match of the season on Friday, topping Elmira 7-0.

“The Elmira girls battled hard in their individual matches,” Horseheads coach Doug Jacobs said. “Horseheads seniors led the way in singles and doubles matches.”

In first singles Miley Darmstadt of Horseheads won 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 over Millie Kierst and at second singles Hannah Smetanka won 6-0, 6-4 over Marley Devlin.

Kate Rought won 6-1, 6-0 over Amelia Allen at fourth singles and Paige Stevens won 6-0, 6-0 over Hannah Reynolds at fourth singles.

In first doubles Lucie McKenzie and Laura Cummings won 6-0, 6-1 over Daryna Zhydovlenko and Justice Gavizzi.

At second doubles Bella Liddle and Kaitlyn Soper won 6-2, 6-0 over Jayden Mann and Olivia Andrews.

In third doubles Lydia Mackey and Delaney Ruhmel won 6-2, 6-3 over Evanya Gardner and lIly Hakes.
