Southern Tier Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — The Corning girls’ tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Horseheads on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win the Hawks move to 2-2 on the year, while Horseheads is 0-4.
Corning’s Kassidy McNeill won 6-3, 6-0 over Miley Darmstadt at first singles and the Hawks Lydia Chung won 6-2, 6-3 over Hannah Smetanka at second singles.
Horseheads’ Kate Rought won 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 over Sophia Rim at third singles and at fourth singles Corning’s Evelyn Sunshine won 6-0, 6-4 over Paige Stevens.
At first doubles Luci McKenzie and Laura Cummings of Horseheads won 6-4, 6-2 over Rebecca Spike and Taylor Kaelin.
Corning’s Jadeyn Vernacatola and Kate Scanlon won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 over Bella Liddle and Kaitlyn Soper at second doubles, while at third doubles Emelia Smith and Natalie Ginalski won 6-4, 6-3 over Lydia Mackey and Delaney Ruhmel.
