STAC BOYS' SOCCER: GOODMAN NETS GAME-WINNER AS HAWKS TOP VESTAL (2025-09-09)
Southern Tier Sports ReportVESTAL — A game-winning goal by James Goodman, and strong saves in net helped the Corning Hawks top Vestal 3-2 on Tuesday.
Goodman had two goals and an assist and Cooper Sargent had a goal.
Corning had 13 shots and five corners and Vestal had seven shots and three corners.
Ryan Bomysoad had two goals for Vestal and Trevor Fundis had an assist.
Isaac Anderson had four saves for Corning and Ben Hufnagel had a save. Evan Bowerman had nine saves for Vestal.
“The guys dug deep,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “We went down a goal keeper and shortly after down a goal. Equalized at the half, went ahead 2-1. Then Vestal scored a great goal to equalize. James Goodman with the match winner, but not without some theatrics at the other end.
“A point blank stop by Isaac, a tight clearance. Vestal came out to make us work and we had to work hard to match their effort. Great teams will do that. Grayson Timmons played an amazing second half of composure to lead the way at the midfield. Always a great and tough win when you play at Vestal.”
