SECTION 4 TRACK AND FIELD: EIGHT LOCALS MAKE STATES ON FIRST DAY OF STATE QUALS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-06-04)
Southern Tier Sports ReportENDICOTT — It was a strong first day for locals at the Section IV Track and Field State qualifiers at Union-Endicott on Wednesday.
Corning had seven state qualifiers on the day and Horseheads had a state qualifier. Cella McLaughlin and Claire Devlin each made states in the long jump and Sophia Cimo made it in the shot put.
Wyatt McDonald made states in the 400, Jaxyn Mahoney in the 800, Jacob Blencowe in the discus and Adrian Blouin in the 400 hurdles. Alexus Borek of Horseheads made states in the 400 hurdles.
Mahoney won the 800 in 1:55.18 as it was a super fast race on the day with four under 1:57 and eight under two minutes.
Horseheads’ Kiran Gulati just missed states, taking third, second in Class A, in 1:56.50. Bryce Hammond of Corning was sixth in 1:58.46 and Nicholas Kowal of Horseheads was eighth in 1:59.32.
Hannah Lasko just missed states, taking third overall, second in Class C, in the 400 in 59.79.
Mcdonald was fourth overall, first in Class A, in the 400 in 50.59. Ryan Calkins of Corning was seventh in 51.57.
Cimo had the top distance in Class A in the shot at 34-feet, fifth overall. Samantha Harvey was ninth at 30-feet, 2 3/4-inches.
Devlin won the long jump at 17-feet, 1-inch. McLaughlin was fourth at 16-feet, 5-inches, but had the state standard this year. Keough was eighth at 15-feet, 5 1/2-inches.
Blencowe won Class A, and was fifth overall, in the discus at 142-feet, 11-inches to make states. Joey Biviano was 10th at 126-feet, 11-inches.
Borek won the 400 hurdles in 1:05.96 to make states. Alisyn Conway of Corning was third in 1:10.30 with teammate Amanda McEwen fifth at 1:11.13.
Adrian Blouin won Class A, and was fifth overall in the 400 hurdles in 58.19 to make states.
Horseheads’ Mylynn Flint had the top time in the 100 in the prelims in 13.01. For the boys Elmira’s DJ Coprew was fourth in the prelims in 11.28 followed by Horseheads’ Chase Luangsuwan (11.29).
McLaughin had the top time in the prelims in the 100 hurdles in 14.39. Makenna Keough of Notre Dame was third in 15.76.
Corning’s Lauren Roche was fifth in the 3000 in 11:35.88. Christopher Lawson of Corning was sixth in the 3200 in 9:47.38.
Elianna Schneider of Corning was fourth in the 800 in 2:23.59.
In the pentathlon Notre Dame’s Antonio Campanella was fourth at 1,498 points and for the girls Hadley Murray of Corning was sixth at 893.
Ethan Wentzel of Corning was fifth in the prelims in the 110 hurdles in 16.27.
In the 200 Lasko was fourth in the prelims in 26.85 followed by Arrianna Jones of Elmira in 27.08.
Maxwell Jennings of Corning was fourth in the pole vault at 13-feet. Wentzel was eighth at 12-feet.
In the boys 200 Luangsuwan was seventh in the prelims in 23.21 followed by Corning’s Nicholas Brucie at 23.28.
In the girls’ 400 relay Horseheads was second in the prelims at 49.68 with Corning fifth at 52.30 followed by Elmira at 52.42. In the boys race Elmira was third at 42.96 with Horseheads sixth at 44.54 in the prelims.
Corning’s girls lead in the team standings with 30 and Horseheads is tied for fourth with 10. Edison is 13th with six points. For the boys Corning is tied for second with 22 and Horseheads was 11th with six points.
