COLLEGE SOFTBALL: RIJO WITH RECORD-SETTING WEEKEND AS ARKANSAS ADVANCES TO SUPER REGIONALS (2025-05-18)
Southern Tier Sports ReportCorning graduate Atalyia Rijo set the Arkansas program record for hits in an NCAA Tournament game on Saturday and on Sunday she tied her own record as the Arkansas softball team advanced to the Super Regional for the fourth time in program history.
Sunday Rijo was 4-for-4 with an RBI in a 12-0 win over Oklahoma State. The win helped Arkansas make the Super Regionals.
On Saturday Arkansas rallied for a 6-5 win over Oklahoma State. Arkansas trailed 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Rijo cut the deficit to 5-2 on a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Arkansas then used three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth Arkansas loaded the bases with a Rijo single and a pair of walks, and then Rijo scored the game-winning run.
Rijo had a 4-for-4 day at the plate, with a home run and an RBI. Her four hits were a career high and a single-game NCAA Tournament program record, beating the previous mark of three that 11 individuals held.
Rijo was 1-for-2 with a walk in a 10-0 win over St. Louis on Friday. She had an RBI in the game and finished the weekend 9-for-10.
