STAC SOFTBALL: JOHNSTON HURLS ONE-HITTER, SHERMAN HITS GRAND SLAM AS CORNING TOPS U-E (2025-05-02)

ENDICOTT — The Corning softball team got a one-hitter from Matti Johnston on the mound and a grand slam from Daphne Sherman at the plate in a 15-2 win over Union-Endicott on Friday.

The Hawks, ranked seventh in the state in Class AAA, scored three in the first, seven in the third and five in the fourth inning.

Johnston allowed one hit and two unearned runs, striking out 13.

Sherman had the grand slam and Johnston, Sophie Schoonover and Kayleigh Sparks each had two hits. Sparks and Schoonover had doubles. Schoonover had two RBI and two runs scored, Johnston scored three runs and Sparks scored a run.

Kendall Curreri had a double, three RBI and three runs scored and Keana Mann had a hit and scored two runs.

Mia Madden scored two runs for Corning and Emelia Smith scored a run.
