STAC SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS EDGES ELMIRA IN 9 INNINGS IN SUICIDE AWARENESS GAME (2025-04-30)

ELMIRA — The Horseheads softball team edged Elmira 5-4 in nine innings in a Suicide Awareness Game.

The game is a suicide awareness game through Morgan’s Story.

Both teams scored two in the third, and Elmira went up 2-0 after the fifth inning.

A Samantha Bonnell sacrifice fly in the sixth cut the deficit to 4-3 and Horseheads tied the game in the seventh when Caitlin Yearick walked. Advanced to second when Reagan Burge reached on an error, stole third and scored on an Aubrey Howe ground out.

In the ninth Megan Wolf hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on a gorundout off the bat of Yearick.

Wolf had two hits, with a triple, and two RBI and Aubrey Maticic and Bonnell each had doubles with Bonnell driving in a run.

Grace Cronin, Presely McInnes, Howe and Burge had hits in the game. Burge and Cronin scored runs and Howe had two RBI. Yearick also had an RBI in the game and walked three times.

Burge struck out six in a complete game effort on the mound for the Blue Raiders.

Ava Sherman had two hits for Elmira and Sonny Taft and Madison Smith each had triples with Taft scoring a run and driving in a run and Smith scoring a run.

Ava Cornacchio had a hits n RBI and two runs scored and Marley Devlin and Addisyn Chorney each had hits for Elmira. Cate Lambert had an RBI for Elmira.

Devlin worked the complete game on the mound, striking out 12.
