HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: CORNING GOES 1-1 AT MARY TESTA TOURNAMENT (2025-04-26)

WINDSOR — The Corning softball team went 1-1 at the Mary Testa Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament on Saturday.

Corning, ranked fifth in the state in Class AAA, won the opener 12-0 over Windsor. They fell 1-0 to Webster Schroeder, ranked sixth in Class AA, in the next game.

Against Windsor the Hawks scored in each of the first six innings. They scored a run in the first, three in the second and third and four in the fourth and fifth. They added a run in the seventh.

Sophie Schoonover was 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored and Emelia Smith was 4-for-4 with two runs scored.

Keana Mann had two hits, with a double, and two runs scored and Lauren Teribury had a double with two RBI and a run scored.

Katie Grover and Kendall Curreri each had hits for Corning, both driving in a run and scoring a run in the game.

Hannah Kauffman, Daphne Sherman and Mia Madden all scored runs in the game and Matti Johnston had an RBI.

Smith threw a two-hit shutout, striking out six for Corning.

In the game against Webster Schroeder there were just three hits and one run in the game.

The Webster Schroeder run came in the opening inning as a walk and an error led to a run.

Johnston went the distance for Corning, allowing two hits and an unearned run, striking out four. She also had the Corning hit.

Webster Schroeder’s  Liana DeValder threw a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts, walking none and allowing just two base runners in the game. DeValder also had one of the hits for Schroeder.
