HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: CORNING NOTCHES WIN OVER EDISON IN MATCHUP OF STATE-RANKED TEAMS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-04-24)
Southern Tier Sports ReportCORNING — The Corning Hawks picked up a win in a matchup of state-ranked teams on Thursday afternoon, topping Edison 5-0.
Corning, 8-1, is ranked fifth in Class AAA and Edison, 8-1, is ranked third in Class B.
Matti Johnston limited the Spartans to one hit in the game, striking out six.
Johnston also had a double and a triple at the plate, driving in two and scoring two runs.
Sophie Shoonover, Emelia Smith, Kendall Curreri, Lauren Teribury and Kayleigh Sparks had hits for Corning.
Smith had a double and an RBI and Schoonover and Sparks scored runs in the game.
Keana Mann scored a run for the Hawks in the win.
Rosie Wheeler struck out four and allowed seven hits and two runs, just two earned, for the Spartans. Wheeler also had the Edison hit in the game.
